Freedom And Flexibility An Interview With Royal Holiday's Luis Lara.

25 years ago Royal Holiday Club was born out of a stroke of inspiration. The concept of "Time Share" as it was understood back then was changed forever. A quarter of a century later, Royal Holiday is the global leader on the vacation industry. Those two key words (freedom and flexibility) have unlocked the doors to a brand new way of understanding Time Shares "Our members love the fact that they are free to choose. They are delighted with the flexibility the membership offers: they can travel to the destination they wish, at the season of their choice and they can stay in the kind of room that best fits their needs at any given moment".

Royal Holiday's philosophy of freedom and flexibility stems from a very simple, yet significant credo "At Royal Holiday, we believe that leisure is important, that it is the time to break away from our routines and experience the extraordinary, that it is a meaningful time as opposed to an idle one" Lara comments. Royal Holiday supports this philosophy with an ever growing list of first rate resorts, the highest standards in service and a product with an extraordinary benefit-cost relation. "When asked, a vast majority of our members said that the main reason that prompted hem to join the Club was the amazing variety of destinations plus the guaranteed and high quality accommodations. The possibility of future, significant savings and the flexibility offered by the Holiday Credits system were mentioned as well".

As one of the key words in Royal Holiday's philosophy, flexibility is a cornerstone of the Club's operations as well. "We are keeping up with the times" Lara affirms, "we are flexible and understand the advantages of change. We think of cutting edge technology as a means to improve our services. Right now we are offering our members assorted interactive services and a totally secure web-page at royal-holiday.com Flexibility also plays a central role in the increasing number of holiday destinations and the inclusion of several different types of vacation. "What people understand as vacation, has evolved over the years. Nowadays the concept includes all sorts of experience: from extreme adventures to eco-friendly tours and from exotic cruises to grounded and relaxing SPAs. Royal Holiday is flexible enough to include them all".

Flexibility is a very useful tool when you plan ahead, it allows space for change and, at the same time, it leaves the essence untarnished. Lara envisions a future filled with challenges and rewards for Royal Holiday and its members. "We are focused on expansion. Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, other South American countries, the Caribbean and Spain are on our radar for the near future. Our member base, currently of 70,000, will increase because of this expansion. This growth will generate the need to increase the number and dimensions of our service centers and implies new challenges, and opportunities, in every area of our operations".

Freedom and flexibility will allow Royal Holiday to incorporate new business endeavors to its agenda. "We will get involved in full time real estate development, including rental programs, hotel operations, golf course and other amenities management".

Over the last few years, Royal Holiday's member base has grown 80%. There are people in over 52 different countries enjoying the benefits of a Royal Holiday Membership. Flexibility plays a key role in understanding and catering to the needs of such a culturally diverse group of people. "Geographically, our member base is distributed in the following manner: 9% of our members come from Europe, 23% from Latin America, 8% come from the Caribbean and 60% from the USA and Canada".

This is why Royal Holiday is always looking to add more and better resorts to their list of possible vacation destinations. "During the last 6 years the number of destinations has increased by 115%. Our goal is to total 200 resorts by the year 2009".
